History

History of the Trinity Centre

  • The Holy Trinity Church was built between 1829 and 1832
  •  It was deconsecrated and given to the Bristol Caribbean Enterprise in the 1970s
  • The building fell dormant until the "Save Trinity" campaign was launched in 2001
  • Trinity Community Arts Ltd won the lease to take charge in 2003
  • The Trinity Centre was reopened in 2004
1829-1970
A history of the Holy Trinity Church, Lawrence Hill, from its time as a church to its deconsecration and development as a centre for community activity.

The Holy Trinity Church was built between 1829-1832, designed by architects Thomas Rickman and Henry Hutchinson.

1980-2000
Trinity's beginnings as a community centre

It was the Bristol Caribbean Community Enterprise group that refurbished and converted the building. They created two floors so that the space could be opened out to a wide variety of education, music and arts activities.

2001-today
Trinity Community Arts Ltd was formed in 2001 and the Trinity Centre was reopened in 2004.

The building was taken over by Trinity Community Arts in 2003 and reopened in 2004.
