Wisconsin singer-songwriter Justin Vernon, formerly of Mount Vernon and DeYarmond Edison fame

The name, Bon Iver, is a bastardization of the French, bon hiver - 'good winter'.
He independently released his debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago in 2007, the majority of which was recorded while spending four months in a remote cabin in Wisconsin.
He previously was a member of bands Mount Vernon and DeYarmond Edison, both indie-rock bands from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where Vernon still resides.
