Details of courses focusing on techniques and skills for music production

Students will be dealing with the following core areas:

  • Introduction to a variety of music software programmes and production equipment

  • Sequencing including selecting and chopping samples to fit your desired project, using the Ardour sequencing package. Our course will allow you to familiarise yourself with techniques and features used in industry standard music production packages today and also you continue your music production practice after the course ends through use of Free and Open Source Software packages.

  • Recording techniques such as how to set up microphones for vocals and different instruments. This is a very important area as mic techniques differ for every instrument and every room is acoustically unique. This will also help break lessons up and help you understand music production as not just solely a computer based practise.

  • Soundtrack production using a Movie player program synced with the sequencing package so that we are able to easily write music and sound effects for any piece of film. There will also be scope for this to link with our other performing arts course.

  • Business and promotions - a core side of the music industry, covering use of social media ways musician can get outlets for their music so that it can be used widely by people in the music industry.

  • How do i get myself heard? We will be looking at how best to get your music to the top of the listening pile. Also we will talk about copyrighting your own material.

  • Visits from industry specialists who are knowledgeable in the main core areas to speak to the students about their own industry experiences and some dos and don'ts.
